Milkers to Millionaires - But Not Very Erotic

This story starts well, but declines about one third of the way in. Several friends in a group of lesbians share a kink that it would be sexually exciting to be milked. Their other friends assist in them fulfilling their fantasy by acquiring a stimulant that increases their lactation. Up till then, it is fairly erotic. But then the activity of the manufacturer of the stimulant takes over the story. From that point on, the story is all about his efforts to grow the company's profits. Bellum seems more interested in telling a story of how a firm selling breast milk and a sexual stimulant, derived from female cum, turns from a small firm into a mega company. Who gets promoted, what role they play, how luxurious their living arrangement are, whom they marry, how many children they have, etc come to dominate the tale. All of the eroticism disappears.

About the Author

Renowned worldwide for research and teaching experience related to nonmedical use of steroids and other performance-enhancing drugs, Charles Yesalis, ScD, MPH, is currently professor of Health Policy and Administration and Exercise and Sport Science at The Pennsylvania State University.

Author or coauthor of more than 60 journal articles and a frequent presenter at international conferences throughout the United States, Canada, France, Sweden, and the Czech Republic, he has also edited or coauthored three books concerning steroid usage.

In addition to testifying before the U.S. Congress, he has acted as consultant for the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee, Drug Enforcement Administration, NFL Players Association, Food and Drug Administration, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, U.S. Olympic Committee, National College Athletic Association, and the National Strength and Conditioning Association.

Dr. Yesalis earned a master's degree in Public Health from the University of Michigan and a doctoral degree from Johns Hopkins School of Hygiene and Public Health.

In his leisure time he enjoys military history as well as racquetball, weightlifting, and running.

A comprehensive study of steroid history and research.

This is an academic book ,which will appeal to the serious researcher ,in the subject of anabolic steroids. Dr. Charles Yesalis offers the research findings and opinions of steroid advocates and detractors in an unbiased scientific document.
The book includes chapters on drug testing,analysis of performance,health implications and the legal aspects of steroid
possession and distribution ,as well as a comprehensive history of steroids.
The author reveals the controversy of the subject, by introducing the aspect of law enforcement of these controlled drugs, whilst quoting the American Medical Associations view that steroids should not be scheduled and that "...steroids can be used safely."
The author shows that several decades of steroid research ,by the medical authorities, often reveals a lack of understanding of steroid dosing ,as applied effectively, by top competing athletes.
This is a book to be recommended to the sports coach,researcher and above all, to the medical and health educating specialists whose inadequate understanding of anabolic steroids is often fostered by myth and anecdote.

And who is this author? Yesalis? A "professor of health policy, administration, exercise and sports science at Penn State"? And he has put together what? An "objective, in-depth collection of articles that examine anabolic-androgenic steroids, their effects, and long-term medical prognosis of use". Whoopee. Sorry, but men looking for Steroid information aren't looking for this type of "data". Men looking for real informaton, information that they can use on Steroids or AAS are going to be wasting their money with this book. If you feel you must read it then hope you find it in a library and not waste your money. If you want information that you can use and from a Bro that you can trust, then check out Anthony Roberts book called Anabolic Steroids: Ultimate Research Guide. And it does mean ULTIMATE. And it is something that you can use and trust being from someone who has Been There and Done That.

It's tough to be devout and kitschy at the same time, but Colleen McDannell strikes that delicate balance with admirable poise in Material Christianity: Religion and Popular Culture in America. Her book is an argument that "American Christians ... want to see, hear, and touch God. It is not enough for Christians to go to church, lead a righteous life, and hope for an eventual place in heaven." This argument is amply defended by smart essays about family Bibles, gravestone design, and Lourdes Water, as well as hundreds of illustrations of vestments, churches, portraits of Jesus, rapture T-shirts, and backyard statues of Our Lady. Where Material Christianity gets really interesting, however, is in its assertion that "Christian material culture does not simply reflect an existing reality. Experiencing the physical dimension of religion helps bring about religious values, norms, behaviors, and attitudes." For example, the warmth and intimacy of Warner Sallman's painting "Head of Christ," which hung in almost every Protestant Sunday School classroom in America until the 1960s, was probably every bit as influential as any given phrase from the Sermon on the Mount in determining the personal nature of Protestants' relationships with Jesus. Inspiring story with two very endearing characters!

By choice, I'm not used to reading historical novels placed in wartime, and the early 1900s are generally as far as I go forward in time, my preference being long past. The reason I picked this book is because it tackles a very sensitive, challenging and a rarely enough addressed subject: conscientious objection. It can only raise interesting conflicts ... and personally the more, the better!

I always thought that these men were very brave; they had to have a lot of strength, resolve and courage to stand by their convictions and to be able to face the scorn, prejudice and misunderstanding from a whole population and often even rejection from their own family. But I also do understand the other side, people who lost their brother, husband or father while fighting for their country. A controversial issue to say the least, but hooo so very interesting! And I have to say that it's treated with finesse and that it mirrors perfectly human nature in all its badness but also its goodness...

Mr. Fitzroy offers us here a very thoughtful and imaginative character study of how two very different men, with their own personal baggage, react to the difficulties of simply living during uncertain and dangerous days coupled with their secret and their guilt, doubts and hope.

This novel has a gentle pacing with a real sense of character, a feel of authenticity and a very natural plot development. The strength of the story is that it focuses not only on a group of individuals but that it also concentrates on a small part of Wales, giving us a strong sense of place and community at that time. It feels utterly genuine, so attractive and never contrived.

The length of the book enables us to get to know well a very varied cast of characters and in particular our two protagonists, Harry and Jim. They become our friends at the same time that their personal friendship grows and you cannot help but love them both.

The author has a very engaging and fluid style of writing. I love the attention to detail that can be found everywhere in the story when it comes to describe feelings and emotion, family tension, the harsh farm life in the depths of the Welsh valley or in Liverpool or even during enemy raids. I love the liveliness and the intelligence of the dialogues, sometimes witty and always believable and sincere. The end twist was very cleverly done!

Adam Fitzroy had written an absorbing and inspiring story with two very endearing characters that have first to free themselves from the past before being able to live their life to the fullest and believe that together, a better future is possible.

Simply let Harry and Jim carry you through this brilliant story. This is the kind of book that I certainly will read again someday. In the meantime, I give 5 stars!

An excellent book.

Harry is a former submarine commander, seriously wounded in an accident and sent home on convalescent leave. Jim has a "gentle heart" and couldn't bear the thought of killing a lamb for food, let alone to kill a man in war. I loved this story, from the fragile beginnings of friendship between the two through to the satisfying end.

It takes Harry a while to break through Jim's reserve, as he initially hopes for Jim's friendship. I enjoyed the conversations between them, as they formed a closer relationship. The later love scenes are understated and circumspect, befitting the atmostphere of the book, but this IS a romance so there are several lovely scenes. And even though the men demonstrate their British stiff upper lips throughout, it didn't keep them from talking about their feelings for each other.

The secondary characters were wonderful, too. Harry's brother Jack is a sweetheart, so hard-working and accepting that this must be his lot in life because it is his duty. Kitty, who ran the household, epitomizes the practical working woman, but also has a romantic side that peeks through. The various villagers, like the Welsh landscape, provide a backdrop for the developing relationship between the two men.

The book is also about a people living at war, stolidly going on day by day, dealing with what they must and getting on with life. I really got a feel for the wartime rationing and privations, with hardworking citizens who would "make do and mend" whatever they had to keep going in hard times.

In several of the novels I've read lately, I've found myself skimming and waiting for the author to "get to the good stuff." In my case, the good stuff is not the sex scenes but mostly the thoughts and feelings of the characters. Even though this novel seems to move slowly on the surface, I don't believe I skimmed a single word of it, because I felt it was all so real, so moving, and so well-written that I didn't want to miss a word.

This is a beautifully written book and one that I loved more and more as I read. The world building is fantastic and the character work is just wonderful. It felt like I had walked in to a painting, I could see the Welsh countryside so clearly in my head, without the details being too much or the exposition being to ""telling"". I loved all the side characters and loved how they filled out Harry and Jim's world, so that everything felt real. The danger of the world they were living in was so real and heavy and THERE- both the danger of the Germans bombing them and the danger of being caught as queer felt real and heavy. This was not a story where the weight of homosexuality was hand waved away and I appreciated that.
I did like that while the danger of the law and the danger of its repercussions was always there, there were people who were willing to accept their family and friends for who they were, which I truly believe did happen in history, and I feel that Jack and Kitty were set up as characters who were capable of those choices from the beginning so that was not surprising in the slightest to me. Thomas was a bit over the top, although I did appreciate the attempts to make him a real person who was believable. I liked that Joan and her decision to marry a man like Thomas was explained- her need to support and protect her children when she knew that she couldn't count on her brother financially made sense and choosing Thomas, despite the fact that he's kind of a giant tool box but a tool box with money and stability does make sense. The only ding I would give this book is that there isn't a lot of explicit sex in the book, which is fine, but the one time where the author does get as close to graphic as you'll see in this book, it's not between Harry and Jim, but between Harry and another man, trading sex for favors. I was disappointed that their encounter was much more graphic and explicit than anything that we saw between Harry and Jim. I would have much preferred to have just had that encounter been alluded to rather than be so blunt if we weren't going to have as much or more with those that we cared so much for.
This is a bit of a slower read, but one that is worth every moment. I would recommend this book to readers of historical romance and those that enjoy m/m stories. The love story is sweet, despite the lack of descriptive sex. Not for those looking for porn, but great for those looking for deeper connections.

I wrote down my ratings and then, of course, I had to sit back and think about it for a bit. This is by no means a flashy book. However, this quiet story - taking place during the most turbulent of times - is extremely well-balanced, well-paced, well-developed and has a great deal of heart. I love stories of slow blooming romance and this one fit my requirements perfectly. Our two protagonists are depicted in beautiful terms. I particularly liked Jim, the conscientious objector, who has made his stand based on his personal convictions but has no axe to grind and is not without regrets over his decision. The fact that he is far too tenderhearted to survive battle is something he doesn't admit to, but is depicted so well in his refusal to tend the animals on the farm and his anguish over the dying lamb. I have downgraded my ratings just slightly, as I felt a few of the characters came across as too conveniently black or white. Given the author's detailed rendering of people living during the extremities of war, I felt that characters such as Harry's brother Thomas came across a little too flatly unlikeable while others, like Mrs. B who ran Harry's boarding house, seemed almost too accepting of Harry's and Jim's relationship. Overall, though, I loved the book - what a pleasure to read.

For me, best of the 5; Great setting, very interesting and little known; authentic develop. Plot really good (until the end; maybe that crime wasn’t really necessary, but a means to bring them together maybe) A little bit too well meaning people in the end; but main characters well laid out and endearing. Writing excellent, a deep knowledge and good “mix” of English and Welsh.

The setting was clear and alive, immersing the reader in the time and place. The historical details appeared accurate. Characters were well-drawn and fully fleshed. The writing style was lovely (the only problem I noted was the frequent use of character names in the dialogue, which was generally unnecessary). This is a complex, literary novel, the kind that's generally described as "quiet." I enjoy that kind of novel, but with this one, it me a long time to get invested in the story. The main character didn't seem to have a goal or desire that was driving the action. Early on, the plot seemed like a series of events -- bridging plots until the main plot got moving about 150 pages in. Self-denial is a theme, so the protagonist's willingness to avoid pursuing his desires made sense, especially during wartime. Yet making the protagonist's desires more clear, and showing the self-denial on more of a continual basis, would have upped the stakes for the reader and increased the emotional payoff when the desire was fulfilled. I loved this story, but I might have missed out on it by putting the book aside when the opening chapters didn't draw me in.

This book has stayed with me long after I finished reading it, and was hard to banish from my mind enough to start another book. The book was written in a style which I found reminiscent of the tone of wartime British films – slightly formal and cut glass accents. However, underneath this slight formality the real tenderness and affection was very apparent between characters – both main and secondary. It had an interesting and complex plot which was well pace and always kept me gripped. It was a clever idea to make the main source of conflict the fact that one of the characters was a conscientious objector, rather than the fact he was a homosexual. The characters were nicely rounded and varied, and behaved in keeping with the times. The British setting was well drawn and the description of the rural community rang very true. I think this book is really up there with the winners.

The point of view of an amateur researcher

THE YEAR IS 1987 AND NASA LAUNCHES THE LAST OF AMERICA'S DEEP SPACE PROBES!

I love TV show companion books. This one does a good job going behind the scenes of Buck Rogers in the 25th century, a show I loved as a kid and still enjoy today. There are some good interviews with the cast included and an episode by episode guide. If you're a fan of the series, you'll enjoy this companion.

A WHOLE NEW PERSPECTIVE

One man's opinion:
A heady, fantastic read for those who are open to the broader viewpoint. To me, the book says basically that we need to evolve away from hating, disliking, shunning or rejecting certain ideas, people, places, and so on. We need to become whole. Jesus said we should "love one another," and I believe Paul Twitchell said, "Never find fault, never criticize." One reason for this is, as Healing Power points out, things we reject/hate often show up in our lives as illness. They show up so we can confront them - because we must! Life wants us to become whole, loving, enlightened - however you like to put it.
And there's much more here. Highly recommended. Also see Harold Klemp's books for help in understanding how we are the sole creators of our own lives. Are we ready to see this?

Now I don't need to write my book anymore. It is already written, and probably much better...
Rather than blocking or destroying illness, we can learn from it. Paradoxical, yes. Give a minute of your thoughts to this affirmation. Our body is just showing us the way we were unable to follow in our free consciousness. Learn from your illness, then your illness becomes useless and fades away. Illness represents the last opportunity for evolution. Whatever you do for healing, pay simultaneous attention to the only true healing. Take the challenge!
