Long awaited book that looks beyond method

This book takes a critical look at the way that we have related to method in social science. It develops a number of implications for viewing reality as process rather than product. The insights and the implications offered by John Law are profound, and deserve to be read carefully by scholars and students alike. The text is provocative in its implications yet modest in its propositions. It takes the reader to the heart of dilemmas posed by method in contemporary social science research.

Completely Different Take on Sci-Fi & Adventure Series

We started this series a few years ago when I randomly chose it off an audiobook shelf. The whole family, including Grandpa listened while traveling from CA to Nevada. We were all captivated.

If you start the series cold, having no clue what it is about, the first few chapters of the first book are a bit slow and/or confusing, but once the story takes shape, that is it. We have been waiting (and bugging the author) for the 3rd book now for over a year. We wish that one was available as an audiobook, but all of us agree that we hear the character voices in our heads as we read the Kindle version.

Rather than strictly imaginative fantasy, these books empower the characters with actual STEM concepts. The author is able to introduce the topics in an understandable way, without "dumbing them down" too much. I have a 13 year old girl taking Physics now, and she is not a bit overwhelmed since the basics have been introduced to her through this series. My 12 year old boys are looking forward to Chemistry and Biology too.

My kids love the action, I love that the books makes me think. A subtle component to the stories is that the adults and tween characters work together (or battle each other) without either side being ridiculed or made to look less than the other. Finding a book, TV, or movie plot these days that treats differing ages and sexes as equals is hard to find.

Worth the Wait

I first picked up Simon Bloom and the Gravity Keeper when it first came out and within three chapters I was hooked. I read and then re-read it several times. Then came the 2nd Chronicle, the Octopus Effect and it exceeded the first. Unfortunately, then came the wait and the waiting. The author perservered through the delays and the struggles to get this chronicle out too us and after about three years, it finally happened.

It was worth the wait.

I picked this up and could not stop until I savored every word. The book has everything from redemption to courage, pain and stuggles and the choices that come with these. It is great seeing Simon continuing to grow and face self doubts through out the book. I don't want to give too much away but if you like a great story with a different twist to how its told, then these are the Chronicles for you. As for the author, I hope he continues to provide us with more stories involving Simon and his friends.

Great for young actress!

I was introduced to this play of monologues 11 years ago when I was in high school. There are many quirky, bizzare, frightening and ultimately moving characters that Ms. Martin introduces us to. Now, as a drama teacher I regularly recommend this to my students.

All time favorite

This play has my all time favorite monologue- French Fries. It is about a homeless woman who wants to live in McDonald's. It manages to capture humor but with a very serious undertone of her fears and pain in life. There are several other good monologues in this play including Clear Glass Marbles, Lamps, and Rodeo. Many of them, however, for my personal taste have bad language and offensive content. In my mind, I separate out French Fries at a 5 star, the other 3 I mentioned and 4 1/2 stars and the others I will never use and would not recommend at all.

Wonderful and strange.

Jane Martin's Talking With gives you highs, lows and makes you wonder what kind of weird people would want to be in such a show! From a woman in labor with a "dragon" to a snake handling religious fanatic. An actress threatening to off her kitty with a hammer to a woman covered in tattoos. You'll either find someone to relate to or wonder what this world is coming to. Whichever it is, it defenintly isn't boring. What do I think of the show? It's strange and wonderful!

Skillful writing in a cross-genre novel

I love On the Edge! The protagonist, Kristen, is as flawed a protagonist as I’ve read in years, but her flaws were what made me want to keep reading. It’s a strength of this book, I think, that the author didn’t feel she had to deliver pretty packages to the reader at any point in the book, including at the end. In fact, every character has their flaws—just as real people do. There’s something in this book for everyone: Is romance your genre? On the Edge has a big romance, and a few smaller ones. Do you like intrigue and mystery? Check, check. What about psychological drama? Yep. Crime? Yep. Faith? Yep. Chick lit? Yep. All of those elements, in the hands of a less skillful writer, could make for a muddled read, but that isn’t the case here. Theresa Santy’s writing is deft and powerful, with enough humor to temper the drama, and enough compassion to soften the sharp edges.

Great story, great characters

I don't like to do "summary-style" reviews that basically re-state what the book blurb says. So I won't do that, but I will say this is a great story of one woman's search for peace from her past and herself. Ms. Santy isn't afraid to have her characters wrestle with the hard questions, and while the story provides answers, they aren't pat, Twitter-quote fluff. I fell in love with Kristen and Ethan, and I think you will, too. So I highly recommend this book -- both entertaining and ultimately uplifting!

I really enjoyed this book

I really enjoyed this book. I love how it's written so descriptively and, for me, it played out like a movie in my head. I found the characters real and relatable, raw and honest. I saw myself in Kristen, in both her lows and highs. It's almost comforting to have a character written so full and rounded and see her life play out in the book. It reads like a journey and I was left with hope. I recommend this book.
