Readable and Useful

A very readable book outlining a workable theory and solid techniques for treating DID/MPD. Systems theory clarifies the client's internal relationships by helping the therapist identify the roles and functions of the internal system without pathologizing extreme parts. It goes farther than most books in helping therapists understand their role in the relationship dynamics along with the stresses and strains expected in working with deeply traumatized clients.

This is one of those portmanteau books that throws a lot of stuff into an overnight bag and heads for a thoroughly good weekend away. It packs for all weathers and occasions and is as happy tramping the hills in a rainstorm as it is rocking it up in a ballgown at a five star hotel in the evening. It might even shove in a little je ne sais quoi in case it gets lucky. Some of the ideas are simple: Make a mahl-stick; some more adventurous: Using tone in context - for instance (I've given up on the travel metaphor now, let's not milk it). It's one of those books to have on the shelf and pull down when you just want something not too demanding to browse. ACRYLIC PAINTING TECHNIQUES

This is a very good book on acrylic painting techniques with lots of instruction, tips and trade secrets about using acrylic paints.

Starting with the basics, the book explains how to begin setting up and the good reasons for using acrylic paints. He discusses color, brushes, brush techniques, painting knives, sponges and shapers. He shows how to stretch and mount a canvas and how to set up a studio.

In chapter two, the author shows how to design a painting; how to create a good composition, pick good subjects and he explains color theory.

In chapter three, the author, explores techniques. He discusses acrylics, water colors, action painting, gouache, classic and modern oils, monoprinting and more. All of the illustrations are in full color. The paper is heavy stock glossy.

There are many examples of landscapes, seascapes, still lifes and animal studies. Each painting is shown in several stages of completion with tips on how to get it right. This is an exceptional book aimed at the beginner or slightly advanced artist that will make you a better painter in the acrylic medium.

A go-to acrylic technique book worth keeping open when painting.

While browsing online through some art collections and current exhibits in London museums and public galleries, I clicked on "Store" in each site just to see what was available - I was mostly interested in books on collections and exhibits that included discussions of the artists' techniques and materials. For one of the large public galleries, this was the only acrylic techniques book listed for that store. So, I dropped in here to Amazon and read all the reviews. Then, I went elsewhere on the www and read more reviews. Then, I came back to Amazon and bought it. Over the last few months, I have consulted it as often, if not more often, than the other handful (i.e., less than six) technique books I keep handy while painting.

If you are like me and don't want to take the time to experiment to achieve a particular effect when painting (or also like me don't have a long attention span so don't always remember what I'm doing), this book should be added to your reference library.

`Claim your life back.'

Thomas Keane has take on a subject that disturbs many of us - the loss of face to face communication, the hours of time consumption noted in public places where people are more attached to their smartphones with social media, texting, selfies, or other distractions form the real world. Not only is it rude when someone in your group steps mentally away to the slavery of their smartphone,, but it is undermining the old tradition of simply enjoying eye contact conversation over coffee or in a park or in the hallway of buildings, etc.

As Thomas states in his introduction: `In this day and age, having a mobile phone - or more specifically, a smartphone - is almost an indispensable part of our everyday lives. We say "almost" because while it is true that one can go about the day without a mobile phone, the fact remains that doing so is not an easy thing to do. This is because smartphones have ceased to become mere devices with which to call or text people; nowadays, they have achieved a level of sophistication that makes them the de facto device not only to communicate with other people, but also to check email, log in for work, do online banking, shop for goods, check your exact location, review services, and of course, record events either through photos or videos. The multi-functionality of the ordinary smartphone , not to mention its extreme portability, has made it the go-to device for many. In fact, many people can now do more things with this nifty gadget even without an actual desktop computer or even a laptop. So given all these , it is hardly surprising that not a few people have developed a sense of attachment to their smartphones, some more than others.' Strong words but oh so true!

Thomas approaches this addiction by separating his comments into the following sections: Positive Aspects of Smartphones, Destroying your Social Life, Don't Lose Your Day, Reconnect to Life. Then he offers tips and tricks to overcome this addition - consider your smartphone a distraction, reward yourself for limiting your time on your smartphone - `Create positive distractions that do not revolve around the Internet or your smartphone, especially when you know that your use of your phone is triggered by boredom and the quest to do something interesting. There is more to life than what your smartphone can offer. Do something you've never done before. Go outdoors. Exercise. Indulge in a new hobby. Meet new and actual people. The possibilities are infinite.'

A Prevalent Addiction

Smartphone addiction is really prevalent. You can hardly go anywhere where someone is not paying more attention to their phone that the people around them. The truth is that smartphone addiction is very isolating all while you think you are being more social. I see people at my grocery store who are more concerned with their phone than the fact that they are blocking the way for others trying to shop. If this is you then this book may help you.

Thomas Keane gives tips on other things you could be doing instead of being continually on your phone. You may rediscover the pleasures of a walk out in nature or the intellectual pleasure of reading a good book. Either way this book gives you something to think about. This is a really short book that has a few great ideas.

Powerful Book for every woman

Great gift for newly wed and every woman trying to conceive. It gives you reasons why hinderances occur, promises from God's word, encouragement and filled with tesimonies of several ladies who could not conceive and finally gave births. Among them were ladies who were told they were having miscarraiges but stood on God's word and delivered, ladies whom no babies coul be found on ultraosund and 7 months later they were able to and so much more. It helped build my faith and a breakthrough book for anyone who need help in this area.
